Too many NonProfits?
There are 19000 non profits in Alberta. That is one non profit organization for every 189 Albertans, so a ratio of 1:189.
What do you think of that number? Does it suggest to you there are too many non profits?
Well let’s dig deeper.
Consider the following: There are
728 Albertans per Sports Groups
1,894 Albertans per Arts & Culture
2,105 Albertans per Social Service Group
How do those numbers sound? Maybe it would help to compare some private sector numbers to the non profit numbers.
There are…
2,380 Albertans per Gas Station
331 Albertans per Liquor Store
600 Albertans per VLT
498 Albertans per Lawyer
So, what do you think now?
It’s not really how many non profits there are that’s the real question is it?
It’s something else all together. That’s what the dialog should be about.
More later.
Really interesting numbers.
It would be interesting to know how many of those non-profits are “dormant” and waiting for an election, a centennial, an event or something else.
It’s also neat to know how engaged we are as a community!
